Nandyal (Kurnool Dist): YSRC president YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday sought to describe the bypoll scheduled to be held in Nandyal on August 23 as a fight between “dharma and adharma”. Quoting heavily from Indian epics of Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita, and Koran, Jagan said at an election rally here that his party represents dharma while the ruling TDP has become synonymous with adharma allegedly due to its misrule.

Reddy gave a clarion call to people to play Lord Sri Krishna, who ensured the victory of Pandavas without using any weapon and waging a battle to put an end to the rule of “Kauravas”, by just pressing on the EVM (electronic voting machine) at the hustings.

The opposition leader said the byelection was a beginning for the upcoming Kurukshetra (2019 general elections), the epic battle in the Mahabharatha. “The downfall of Kauravas is certain in the battle,” he professed. Jagan Reddy alleged that the TDP government’s three-year rule was marked by treachery, unethical practices like encouraging defections from his party, stinking corruption, inaction and inefficiency.

The YCP chief likened Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to a ‘thief’. “We call Ravana, antagonist in Ramayana, a demon for stealing Sita, consort of Lord Rama. We also call people who plunder crops and kidnap children thieves,” he said, seeking to know as to what someone who took away MLAs elected on the YCP ticket should be called.

Therefore, he asserted, this election will be held between politics of credibility and politics of treachery. “Any sacred book, be it Bhagavad Gita or Koran or Bible, says dharma will always prevail and I am sure this will happen in the current election,” he predicted.

Jagan devoted most of his time to narrate parables from Koran and spoke of issues pertaining to Muslims in a bid to woo the numerically strong Muslim minorities in Nandyal constituency. He spoke of a narrative from Koran, likening himself to Md Prophet who faced a murder conspiracy from a group of non-believers and explained how he emerged unhurt and the conspirators went back with a sense of guilt.

He said that CM Naidu will shed crocodile tears for Muslims only at the time of elections. The YSRC leader recalled how Muslims went unrepresented in the TDP government in the last three years while driving his point home. Jagan Reddy promised to create a separate district with Nandyal as district headquarters if he will come to power in the next general elections.
