70% tenders for construction of Amaravati completed: Capital Region Development Authority
Almost 70 per cent of the projects in Amaravati have successfully passed the tenders stage, and are now in the grounding stage, stated the AP Capital Region Development Authority officials in a review meeting on the progress of Amaravati capital city construction held by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at CM’s residence in Undavalli in Guntur district on Thursday.
Amaravati: Almost 70 per cent of the projects in Amaravati have successfully passed the tenders stage, and are now in the grounding stage, stated the AP Capital Region Development Authority officials in a review meeting on the progress of Amaravati capital city construction held by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at CM’s residence in Undavalli in Guntur district on Thursday.
In the meeting, CRDA Commissioner Cherukuri Sreedhar informed that the current focus is on materials procurement. The availability of all the required raw materials, gravel, hard granite metal and sand, is confirmed to be in a radius of 75 per cent around Amaravati, he said.
The Amaravati city should be from slums, instructed the Chief Minister to CRDA officials. The Chief Minister also instructed officials to mull plans for appropriate housing and layouts to provide shelter to the local population.
“CRDA, as an organisation must start growing bigger, and capacity building and planning are the ways to work faster and more efficiently,” the Chief Minister said.
He also said that the waterways and state canals must be included in a network and the state inland waterways must contribute to connectivity in the State. Special purpose vehicles can be introduced for this purpose, he observed. No other state capital has this advantage, said Chandrababu Naidu.
As per environment-friendly moves, fly ash will be used instead of gravel to a large extent, and will be developed in barges. Around 10 hotels have confirmed their developers and presence in the city. “By 2020, Amaravati city will surely have 1,200 rooms available across hotels,” reported Sreedhar.
He also reported that MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) will be developed under the Public Private Partnership model and will become one of the top centres of economic, cultural and business activities in the Southeast Asian region. 42 acres of land has been identified in a plot along the banks of river Krishna and the cost of project will be Rs 1,220 crore, he explained.
