The city is hosting a five-day third World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) which is slated from November 6 to 10.

Visakhapatnam: The city is hosting a five-day third World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) which is slated from November 6 to 10. The state government, Disaster Management Initiative and Convergence Society (DMICS) and GITAM University are jointly organising the congress. National Disaster Management Authority, NIDM, JNU, NAPSIPAG, Save the Children, Care, Oxfam and Nature are the lead partners of the event.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Collector Pravin Kumar, along with the officials of DMICS, explained the details of the event. Various aspects and dimensions of the theme has been structured in seven plenary sessions, 30 thematic sessions and three special feature events would be covered in the congress, the Collector said.

More than 1,000 delegates from across the world representing the governments, international organisations, scientific and technical and non-government organisations of countries are taking part in the congress. Over 125 scientific and technical papers have been accepted for presentation at the various thematic sessions of the congress, the Collector said.

Chairman of DMICS PG Dhar said that Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa will inaugurate the congress. Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha Tambidorai and several other VIPs will be attending the inaugural session. An exclusive seminar on the media and disaster management will be held on November 8, he added.
