Vijayawada: After the ghastly accident, which claimed three lives and created a panic on Budameru Bridge on October 27, the city traffic police began measures to regulate the traffic and check accidents in one of the dangerous spots in the city.

It may be recalled that three persons, including a woman and child, were killed when a speeding RTC bus ran amok due to failure of its breaks on Budameru Bridge. The driver could not stop the metro bus which was going from Vambay Colony to K Market and mowed down vehicles and people.

The terrific accident highlighted the need to increase vigil on the bridge and nearby areas during the morning and evening hours. The traffic police arranged loud speakers at the junction to regulate the traffic in the morning and evening hours. Budameru Bridge a small narrow bridge was built more than 40 years ago connecting Ajit Singh Nagar, Nunna areas to Mutyalampadu Junction the city.

More traffic police are posted on duty at the hazardous junction after the accident. There was heavy traffic in the morning hours between 7 and 10 on the narrow Budameru Bridge. Thousands of people from Ajit Singh Nagar, Nunna, Nandamuri Nagar, Kandrika, Payakapuram, Agiripalli and other areas come to the city for work, trade and other purposes on vehicles.

The existing old bridge is not able to cope up with the increasing vehicular traffic. A traffic police constable regulating the traffic said the junction became horrible with increasing day today vehicular traffic. DCP Kranti Rana Tata and traffic police officers inspected the Budameru and Ajit Singh Nagar flyover area and taking measures to check road accidents and save the lives of people.

Road has been widened near Dabakotlu Centre at Ajit Singh Nagar after the ghastly accident on October 27. Encroachments were removed within 10 days and road widened near petrol bunk junction.
