Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) will be organising movie-making and movie-preview contest, ‘48-hour Challenge,’ for schoolchildren from November 12 to 14 to mark the Children’s Day on November 14.

Disclosing this to the meida at his chambers here on Wednesday, VMC Commissioner J Nivas said that the event was part of Amaravati Children’s Film Festival- 2017. The purpose of holding the contest was to tap hidden talents from the children.

Cinema being a strong medium, they would select 100 students for the purpose and allow them to exhibit their talent. For the contest to be held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, experts from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, would help the children to make the movies by providing necessary equipment.

The children of municipal schools and private schools are eligible to participate in the contest. Film actors Nitin and Adarsh would also attend, he added. Claiming that this would be the first of its kind contest organised by any municipal corporation, Nivas informed that the budding professionals would make movies in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil.

The children would form into groups among themselves with producers, directors and screenplay writers. Their talents would be judged by a group of people from the film industry.

Participating in the celebrations, the students would get an opportunity to know from professionals of film industry on movies and what makes them (films) good and bad.

Nivas informed that the contest would create a better platform for the children to discuss movies and play the role of critics also. Best movie would get prize. Mementoes would also be presented. Selection of themes would be left to contestants, he said.
