Amaravati: The state government is finally heading to ground urban housing project and industrial cluster at Jakkampudi Economic Township. Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation will fianalise the tenders for the housing project in December second week.

It is also taking steps to construct the buildings for small industrial units. The government initiated the development of Jakkampudi Economic City to create ‘walk-to-work environment in order to provide good quality life for citizens.

In order to meet the housing demand, especially in the lower and middle-income groups, due to rapid urbanisation in and around Vijayawada city, the government has proposed to develop the Economic Township on the land belonging to the revenue department at Jakkampudi in 265 acres under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode which is located on the banks of the River Krishna and 15 km from Vijayawada. The site will be used for developing the township project by supporting economic and commercial activities.

The municipal administration department has decided to construct 10,000 G+3 houses under phase-1, and tenders have already been invited for the same. Principal Secretary to Municipal Administration Karikal Valaven informed Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar on Thursday that the tenders would be opened within 10 days and all the process would be completed in December second week.

The APTIDCO has prepared a master plan for the township and is preparing to create space for small industrial units in the city. The APTIDCO submitted a report to the government stating that it has planned to build G+3 and G+5 buildings for the industrial units and it received 280 applications from entrepreneurs.

The government has decided to encourage pollution-free industrial units such as offset printing, automobile and zen engineering, warehousing, IT, electrical and electronics, food products, logistics etc in the township. “The project is proposed to be developed with innovative and environmentally friendly technologies and material,” said an APTIDCO official.

Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar directed the municipal administration officials to take steps to expedite the township project works. He also said the township project would provide opportunity to economically backward people to improve their living standards by starting small industrial and business units.
