Anantapur: Former MLA and YSRCP leader B Gurunath Reddy and his brother Yerriswamy Reddy on Wednesday left for Amaravati to meet Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and formally join the Telugu Desam Party. Speaking to The Hans India, Gurunath Reddy said that the decision to leave the YSRCP was painful as he and his family members were die-hard supporters of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s family.

“It was the attitude of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy towards my family that prompted us to leave the YSRCP and join the TDP,” stated Gurunath. Asked from where he would contest in the next Assembly elections, he replied that he would do whatever the Chief Minister decide regarding his role in the party.

Earlier in the day, Gurunath Reddy's house witnessed a festive mood as the Gurunath and his family members and supporters were getting ready to leave for Amaravati in tens of vehicles in a large cavalcade, full of his enthusiastic supporters and long-time associate leaders at the mandal and village-level in the Anantapur Assembly constituency.

Gurunath's entry into TDP would alter political scales and tilt the Reddy community votes. Gurunath, an ex-MLA from Anantapur Assembly constituency, is an aspirant for the party ticket from the constituency. His entry would upset thepolitical apple-cart and engineer rebel activity in constituency from where ever he is nominated.

It is MP JC Diwakar Reddy's master strategy to get Gurunath elected from Anantapur Urban constituency and replace the present MLA Prabhakar Choudhury, who is quite popular in the city as he also worked as municipal chairman in the past.
