The highways in the district with potholes are causing great inconvenience for the public. The recent rains have made the situation worse and for vehicular traffic on several roads became dangerous and especially they have become unsafe for motorcyclists at night. About 3,000 km roads from the total of 5,667 kilometres were battered in torrential rain.

About 3,000 km roads from the total of 5,667 kilometres were battered in torrential rain.

The roads in district are very important as they are serving as junctions for three States. Besides, majority pilgrims are visiting the temple city with their own transport.

Especially, roads between Sri City and Krishnapatnam Port are in poor condition and many highways in the district were very narrow. Drivers having nightmarish experience to drive vehicles on roads with potholes. People from several mandals like Satyavedu, Puttur, Sadum, Somala, Madanapalle etc. are facing hardships. In particular, the vehicular movement on the Chennai-Kadapa national highway resulting in a nightmare.

Accidents of various magnitudes have been reporting due to damaged roads and vehicles were also getting damaged frequently. The officials have sent proposals to the Central government for taking up repairs on the damaged roads. At several places, culverts were damaged to the heavy inflow of water due to torrential rains during August-October.

A total stretch of 652 km national highways and 1,101 km state highways were in the district. There are other roads like district roads, BT roads, gravel roads etc. and an estimated 30 per cent of all roads have been damaged.
