Kurnool: TDP district president Somisetty Venkateswarlu said that the central government should confer the nation’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna on the former Chief Minister and founder of Telugu DesamParty NTRama Rao posthumously.

The TDP district unit has organised several social activities across the district on the occasion of the 22nd death anniversary of NT Rama Rao on Thursday. In Kurnool, the party activists led by Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy have organised a blood donation camp at the branch of the Indian Red Cross Society and distributed 2,000 saris, bread and fruits to the poor patients at Government General Hospital here.

Blankets and dress materials were also distributed to the physically challenged. Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP TG Venkatesh, MLC KE Prabhakar, party district general secretary Y Nageshwara Rao Yadav, party key leaders Hanumanth Rao Chowdary, Ravi Kumar and others garlanded the portrait of NT Rama Rao at the party office and took out a rally till the NTR Circle where they paid rich tributes to the party founder.

Speaking on the occasion, the party district president recalled the services rendered by NT Rama Rao to the state. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was also following in the footsteps of the late Rama Rao, he added.

Mantralayam TDP in-charge Thikka Reddy organised a blood donation camp in which 200 members took part. He said that NT Rama Rao was the only Chief Minister, who had launched several welfare schemes to the poor and downtrodden sections of the society.
