Nellore: Doctors at Apollo Hospital have recently conducted a rare kidney transplant surgery on a total renal failure patient Kamesh Kumar of Gudur and set a record of sorts. According to reports, Kamesh was on dialysis for over a year as his two kidneys were completely damaged.

He could not find a donor matching his blood group. He consulted nephrologist of Apollo Hospital Dr MV Suresh Kumar Reddy and urologist Dr Mahesh Babu. Using the latest technology, his blood was filtered, and his mother gave the kidney, which was successfully transplanted. While the blood group of Kamesh Kumar was O positive, his mother’s blood group was B positive.

The hospital nephrologist said the procedure was complex and only a limited number of hospital offer such surgical treatment. Ever since the surgery was conducted on February 17, the patient was progressing.

Apollo Hospital’s Nellore unit head Naveen and Hospital Superintendent Dr Sweta have congratulated the nephrologist and his team of doctors for successfully transplanting the kidney. The hospital authorities are appealing to people of Prakasam, Nellore and Rayalaseema districts to make better use of the Apollo Hospital.
