Rajamahendravaram: Congress senior leader V Hanumantha Rao hoped the Congress will be voted to power in the ensuing Karnataka Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters at Anand Regency here on Friday, Hanumantha Rao said the Congress government in Karnataka during its five-year tenure had implemented many welfare schemes benefiting the common man and expressed confidence the people, who benefitted under the schemes, would vote for Congress in the state.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has no right to criticise AICC president Rahul Gandhi, who participated in electioneering along with Gali Sriramulu and Gali Janardhan Reddy who were involved in mining scams.

The people of Karnataka are aware of BJP, where many scams came into light during BJP rule in the state, he said. How can he support former Chief Minister B S Yedurappa who also involved in a scam, he questioned?

Stating that the BJP-led government at the Centre was trying to dilute the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the guise of Supreme Court judgment, he said the Congress government had strengthened the act in 1989.

He demanded Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to accord permission to the proposed Millinium March by former MP G V Harsha Kumar on May 18 in Guntur and Simha Garjana of Manda Krishna Madiga on May 27 in Warangal. Everyone in democracy has right to express their opinion on any issue, he added. Former MP G V Harsha Kumar was present.
