Guntur: Union minister for health and family welfare J P Nadda announced that Out-Patient (OP) medical services at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) under construction at Mangalagiri would begin in January next year and the construction would be completed by March. Nadda visited AIIMS on Friday and reviewed progress of construction works with the officials concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union minister said that MBBS classes of the new AIIMS would be started at Siddartha Medical College in Vijayawada this academic year. “Thirteen 13 AIIMSes have been construction in the country so far. The Central government will complete the AIIMS Mangalagiri works before the schedule, by speeding up the works,” he said.

Replying to a question, Nadda said that the Centre had taken up AIIMS at Mangalagiri at a cost of Rs 1,613 crore and added that first phase works would be completed by March next year. The process of recruiting faculty for Mangalagiri AIIMS will also be completed soon, he added.

Minister for social welfare Nakka Anand Babu said that the state government allotted 183 acre land valued at Rs 1,000 crore for construction of AIIMS at Mangalagiri and was developing necessary infrastructure.

He said that the state government was extending all necessary cooperation to the Centre to complete the construction of prestigious institute in the stipulated time. The minister on the occasion explained the infrastructure development at AIIMS through a power point presentation.

Earlier, Nadda inspected various blocks under construction at AIIMS along with minister Aanand Babu, Narsapuram MP Gokaraju Ganga Raju, MLAs Kamineni Srinivas, P Manikyala Rao, district collector Kona Sasidhar, medical and health department officials.
