Anantapur: The historical town of Penukonda and Hindupur in Anantapur district are now emerging as industrial hubs,thanks to the Kia Automobiles project and other projects which are coming up in the 50 km radius in the two industrial towns. The TDP government is determined to ground all industrial projects by early 2019.
District Collector Veera Pandian told ‘The Hans India’ that many automobile ancillary industries are also expected to come up in the region.
The District Industries Centre(DIC) has been receiving new proposals from industrialists for setting up of industrial parks on the lines of Special Economic Zones(SEZ). They are seeking land allotment for setting up of aero-space and pharma clusters. The proposals are forwarded to the state government.
Kia Automobiles, BHEL and Airbus projects are the major ones which were already announced in the region. Bharath Electronics Limited(BEL), aCentral government public sector project costing Rs.750 crores in the sprawling 1,200 acres was proposed inPalasamudrammandal in Penukonda region. Land had already been allotted for the project.
National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics is another institute planned in 500 acres at a cost of Rs.600 crores near Gorantla in Palasamudrammandal. This is the second in the country after the Faridabad institute in Haryana State.
Recently 25 MOUs have been signed with the government by industrialists for setting up of large and medium size industries in Hindupur and other places in the district. Of the 25 projects, 18 are in various stages of implementation. These projects are worth more than Rs 30,000 crore investments.
Andhra Pradesh has attracted one of the largest FDI investments in recent years, some Rs 13,500 crore from Kia Motors, along with its subsidiaries and ancillaries, to set up an ultra-mega integrated automobile project in Anantapur district.
After Kia set shop, 300 South Korean companies have shown interest in the state. Toyota hangs recently announced providing electric vehicles to the state. Kim Hyung Tae, the consul general of South Korea for South India, in fact, lauded the Make-in-India programme. Around 100 Korean companies are going to invest in Andhra in the next six months, the sources said.
The car manufacturing facility, a first for Andhra Pradesh, will involve two phases with a cumulative investment of Rs 10,300 crore, with first phase of investment amounting to about Rs 6,000 crore.
Veera Vahana Udyog Private Limited which is in the business of manufacturing premium buses in Bangalore city has entered into an MoU with the state government to set up a manufacturing company in rural Gudupalle in Somandepallemandal in the district, sources said.
APIIC zonal manager Ranjith told ‘The Hans India’ that 50 acres of land have been earmarked for the project against its request to allocate 120 acres.The Rs.600 crores project will be established in phases 1 and 2. In the phase-1, 5000 buses will be manufactured per year and in the phase-2, 2000 mini-buses will be manufactured. The project is expected to generate 7000 jobs.
