Vijayawada: The Sakambari festival began at Durga temple here on Wednesday. The temple premises was decorated with flowers and vegetables. Devotees presented vegetables to Goddess Durga. Hundreds of kilos of vegetables are decorated in an attractive manner from the queue lines to temple premises.
Temple executive officer M Padma inaugurated the celebrations. The three-day festival ends on July 27 at 3 pm. It is a tradition that the temple and goddess is decorated with vegetables by praying her to bless the people with sufficient food. Devotees thronged the temple on the auspicious occasion.
Besides, the devotees took part in special poojas at mahamandapam and offered prayers with vegetables. The members of Durga Temple Trust Board were also present.
