Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar has said the officials should bring awareness among farmers on latest technology in farming to improve their economic conditions.
He addressed an awareness meeting for farmer’s agricultural associations organised by the National Bank for Rural Development here on Tuesday.
The Collector said that the officials should establish contacts with farmers at field level to achieve the task.
The farmer’s committees worldwide had become stronger on par with traders in marketing and securing remunerative prices for the agriculture products.
Stating that the district has 100 farmers groups, the Collector said that their success was limited for want of awareness on technology.
The situation can be changed if the officials motivate the farmers to go for technology-driven farming apart from techniques to market their produce for profit.
When there was no middleman, the farmers would reap profits, he explained.
The Collector asked the officials to hand over subsidized agriculture implements to the farmers and guide effectively and help them repair the machinery.
More and more farmers should join the agriculture association to market their produce without middlemen, he added.
