Tundurru villagers on warpath
The villagers of Tundurru, Jonnala Garuvu and Kamsali Bethapudi took out rally on Tuesday demanding that the government shift the Godavari Aqua Mega Food Park located at Tundurru to another place Hundreds of villagers took part in the rally in the village and reached the food park site Later, they staged a dharna led by AntiAqua Food Park Agitation Committee
Eluru: The villagers of Tundurru, Jonnala Garuvu and Kamsali Bethapudi took out rally on Tuesday demanding that the government shift the Godavari Aqua Mega Food Park located at Tundurru to another place. Hundreds of villagers took part in the rally in the village and reached the food park site. Later, they staged a dharna led by Anti-Aqua Food Park Agitation Committee.
The people of Gontheru drain catchment area warned that they will obstruct the inauguration of the Aqua Food Park at Tundurru. They stated that they are on the agitating path since four years against the food park as it pollutes the water resources in the delta area. They squatted in front of the main gate of the Aqua Food Park in the village. The CPM extended its support to the agitation.
Addressing the villagers, CPM Delta Committee secretary B Balaram said that since four years, the people of Tundurru, Kamsali Bethapudi and Jonnalagaruvu agitating against the setting up of the Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park in Tundurru. He stated that the food park will destroy the fertile lands and the villages. Villagers were demanding that the government shift the park to the seashore area but in vain.
The factory management is planning to inaugurate the factory amid unrest of the villagers. "We will see how the factory management inaugurates the food park. How they start the park by rejecting the objections of the farmers and villagers of this area", he stated.
"We will fight against the setting up of the park, if necessary we will sacrifice our lives", he stated. He said that due to the food park, the drinking water and irrigation water sources might pollute this area and people may suffer from ailments following the polluted water of Gontheru drain. He stated that Gontheru drain is the lifeline of Mogalturu, Narsapur and Bhimavaram rural mandal villagers.
The CPM would support the right cause of these people. AIDWA District Secretary D Kalyani, Satyavati, BV Varma, Anti-Food Park Agitation Committee leaders Areti Subrahmanyam (Vasu), Mucharla Trimurthulu, Areti Satyavathi, Javvadi Venkata Ramana, Javvadi Satyanarayana, Samudrala Venkateswara Rao and Bellapu Satyanarayana led the agitation. A heavy posse of police personnel were deployed at the food park following the agitation of the villagers
