Akiveedu: Indian Medical Association and Akiveedu Lions Club jointly organised a blood donation programme Rakta Bandhu here on Wednesday. Dr PB Pratap Kumar, president of IMA inaugurated the programme with slogan to ‘Donate blood and save lives’ at Panchayat office here.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the panchayat was identified as a unit for blood donation. All the people of the panchayat would be tested for their group and details would be recorded for future use.

Many people had been dying for want of blood as their group donors were not available in emergency situations such as accidents. He appreciated people for coming forward to donate blood. Akiveedu Lions Club and New United Diagnostics had helped in floating new scheme Rakta Bandhu.

Speakers at the programme urged the government to bring in a piece of legislation making it mandatory to have license to supply blood. The IMA was in the forefront in helping people, they added. Special officer Sunita, panchayat secretary Tagore, Dr MVS Raju and others were present.
