Akiveedu: About 100 persons have been shifted to safer places as rain water flooded several localities in Akiveedu mandal due to incessant rains.
According to Akiveedu special officer M Sunil, water entered into houses in Santinagar, Amrutharao Colony, Srinagar Colony, Madivada, Harijanpet and Janakinagar. While residents of Amrutharao Colony have been shifted to Sivalayam School, the Akiveedu panchayat officials were asked to provide arrangements for food, sanitation and drinking water.
Santinagar locality was soaked in two feet water for two days. Motors were engaged to drain out water from the colony apart from readying poclain to dig kachcha drain via Srinagar colony to allow flood flow into Moola Lanka Bode. A first aid camp was set up at rehabilitation camp to prevent spread of contagious diseases.
Meanwhile, more than 4,000 acres of paddy crop was submerged in the flood. The farmers have been expressing fear that the seedbeds would be spoiled if it rains continuously on Tuesday.
