Over 11,000 beneficiaries to get houses in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation
Over 11,000 beneficiaries will get houses in Vijayawada city and Jakkampudi village by MayJune 2019 as the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is making efforts to complete 3,136 houses at brisk pace
Vijayawada: Over 11,000 beneficiaries will get houses in Vijayawada city and Jakkampudi village by May/June 2019 as the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is making efforts to complete 3,136 houses at brisk pace.
Meanwhile the Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation is constructing 8,456 houses in Jakkampudi village on the outskirts of the city.
The VMC has taken Rs 135 crore loan to complete the pending works of 3,136 houses to be allotted to displaced families particularly the canal bund residents, whose houses were demolished for beautification and development activities.
The UPA Government had sanctioned the houses under JNNURM to Vijayawada city for those residents whose houses were demolished for road widening, construction of bridges and other development works. Besides, the displaced families from canal bunds are also given top priority.
VMC executive engineer(housing) B Mohana Rao said the civic body will complete the pending works of 3,136 houses in RR Pet, Ajit Singh Nagar and Jakkampudi. He said the beneficiary contribution of Rs 66,000 could be paid in two or three installments and added each house costs Rs 4.70 lakh as per the present estimates.
On the other hand, the APTIDCO is constructing 8,456 houses at Jakkampudi village under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY). Both the Central and state governments are giving subsidy to the white rationcard holders.
The new houses are constructed with advanced technology and the revenue department had handed over 75 acres of land near the hills in Jakkampudi for the construction of 8,456 houses.
APTIDCO chief engineer R Krishna Reddy said in the first phase, proposals were made for construction of 10,626 houses and added the APTIDCO will persuade the farmers to get land under the land pooling for construction of houses.
After bifurcation of state, the house rents increased enormously in capital region of Vijayawada, Guntur and Mangalagiri. Consequently, many poor people are trying to get the houses built by the government under the schemes like JNNURM and PMAY.
The VMC will allot houses to 250 families of Devi Nagar in Ajit Singh Nagar as their houses were demolished for laying railway track. Since then, these families have been trying for houses. The VMC has allotted houses to the residents on lottery basis to prevent disputes among beneficiaries.
