Srikakulam: Pradhana Manthri Surakshitha Mathruthwa Abhiyan (PMSMA), an integrated health scheme for pregnant women, which was launched by the Central government, is evoking good response.
The aim of the scheme is to protect health of mother to prevent mortality rate and promote institutional delivery that to in government hospitals. The scheme is being implemented through a special ward at district headquarters hospitals across the country.
As a part of it, Srikakulam MP K Rammohan Naidu inaugurated the scheme at RIMS Hospital here on July 9, 2016. As per guidelines of the PMSMA, medical tests would be conducted for pregnant women on ninth of every month at the special ward.
Basing on the result of tests, high risk group pregnant women would be identified and special medical care would be provided to those women and remaining are being provided regular medicines.
For considering as high risk case previous caesarian pregnancy (PCP), anemic status, hyper tension during pregnancy, malaria, thyroid, blood sugar, HIV positive, type-2 hepatitis-B and bad obstetric history (BOH) are criteria and those women would be given medicine and special care.
In 2016 from July to December, 1,053 women have been availing services, of them 231 women were identified as high risk group. In 2017 from January to December, total pregnant women tested under the scheme is 1,139 of them 424 were identified as high-risk cases.
During this year, in eight months, 808 women availed services, of them 50 were found as high risk category. In a span of 26 months since its inauguration, 3,000 women availed services under PMSMA of them 755 had been identified under high risk category.
“After identifying risk cases, we suggested medicine and referred them to primary health centres, community health centres and area hospitals for further care till delivery”, gynecologist at RIMS D Parvathi explained to The Hans India.
“With the scheme, we are preventing maternity risks and pregnant women need to utilise services timely”, superintendent of RIMS Dr K Suneel Naik told The Hans India.
