Vijayawada: District Collector B Lakshmikantham inaugurated a Mega Blood Donation camp at Maris Stella College Campus organised by Indian Red Cross Society here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that Blood Donation was a noble gesture as it saves one’s life.

He said that most of the people have a false belief that blood donation was harmful, which was not true.

Blood donation results in a healthier body that raises one’s life span who donates blood, said the district Collector.

District Medical and Health department officer Dr I Ramesh said that blood donation should be the moral responsibility of everyone.

He said that many people die due to shortage of blood across the world in spite of widespread awareness campaigns on blood donation.

Red Cross Society district chairman Dr Sridhar Reddy said that they were conducting awareness programmes and organising widespread campaigning on donating blood across the district.

He appealed to the youth to come forward and participate in blood donation camps.

Joint Collector P Babu Rao, Dr J Usha Rani, District Medical Health Officer, Meera Prasad, Deputy Transport Commissioner, Dr G Samaram and others were present.
