Vizianagaram: The Vizianagaram police held a Police Martyrs Memorial Volleyball Tournament in the Agency areas of Vizianagaram district. In the mega event, over 150 teams from interior tribal villages participated.
Eighteen best teams out of over 150 teams competed in Parvathipuram for this cup on Saturday.
The cup and cash award of Rs 25,000 was bagged by the team from Gummalaxmipuram while the team from Peddameraki village stood second and won Rs 15,000.
Three best players were also awarded from Agency villages Martannavalasa, Komrada and Diggumandangi.
In the closing ceremony, the families of martyrs M Gandhi, Sk Ismail, Shriramulu, Chiranjeevulu and P Suryanarayana were felicitavted for their sacrifices.
Hundred school children from tribal villages showcased tribal dance and music.
Speaking on the occasion, Vizianagaram SP G Pala Raju paid rich tributes to the martyrs.
Vikranth Patil, OSD, Vizianagaram, M Deepika Patil, ASP, Parvathipuram, Gouthami Sali, ASP, Bobbili, participated in the tournament.
