Nellore: Though smoking in open places is not a crime in the view of enforcement wings, a team of tricksters deceived an old man in Naidupet town on Saturday, demanding money for smoking in the public place.
They robbed his gold ornaments from him. According to sources, some people have approached Kalluru Penchalaiah from Sirasanambedu for smoking beedi on the road while moving towards bus station.
He was heading towards his village after completing transaction at a local back. People followed and obstructed him saying smoking in open places is a crime and demanded for fine from him.
They forcibly have taken two golden rings from him asking to collect from the local police station after paying the fine.
When he approached the station, he came to know that they were not police personnel.
Police, who received complaint from the victim started investigation.
