Maruti Suzuki is taking on uncharted territories one product at a time in a bid to go all premium in the Indian market. After receiving positive response to the Ciaz sedan, the company plans to introduce the new S-Cross in the country by April this year and we now have more details on the crossover ahead of its official launch. With Maruti having benchmarked the Renault Duster as primary competition, our sources suggest that the new S-Cross will be launched with the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options under the hood.

Furthermore, the 1.6-litre petrol engine will produce around 105 BHP of power, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and will also be available with an automatic transmission. The 1.6-litre diesel, on the other hand, is a Fiat sourced unit producing around 120 BHP of power, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The S-Cross will initially be launched in a 2WD guise with the 4WD variant to follow soon. The ground clearance is measured at 210 mm which is certainly on par with rivals. The crossover will be very well equipped with an extensive list of features that are already seen on the Ciaz.

Apart from the usual bells and whistles, Maruti will offer cruise control on the S-Cross as one of its prominent features. The India spec version also gets visual changes including a new chrome grille, tweaked bumper and a mildly updated rear. The Indian auto giant is going for the premium approach very seriously and is likely to omit the base LXi variants on either engine options. Reports also suggest that Maruti will be opting for a new name instead of the ‘S-Cross’ moniker. Prices for the crossover will commence from around Rs. 9 lakhs going up to Rs. 14 lakhs (ex-showroom) in the country.
