The cheetah inspired SUV, which first made headlines in September 2011, will be launched in the facelift avatar soon. Mahindra will launch the facelift of the XUV500 on the 25th of May. The changes to the car will be strictly cosmetic.

The front of the new XUV500 will boast of a new headlamp cluster and an S-shaped LED day time running lights (much like the ones we saw on the Scorpio), which will add a bit of fierceness to the car. Up front it'll also get 'L-shaped' chrome-finished fog lamp enclosures which complete the changes made to the front.

The car also comes with a new alloy wheel pattern while the rear of the XUV500 will get a chrome-garnished registration plate enclosure and a differently designed rear door too. The interiors of the facelift version will see no changes and they will be carried forward from the current model. Mahindra though will add some new colours to the palette to make the look and feel on the inside a bit more upmarket.

We expect no changes to the mechanicals too and we'll see the 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine will make its way under the hood again. The engine churns out a hefty 140bhp and develops 330Nm of torques while also being fuel efficient by returning 15.1km/l. There are quite a few rivals for the Mahindra XUV500 now than when it was launched and these include the likes of the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Skoda Yeti and the Tata Safari Storme.
