Renault Kwid AMT with 1 liter engine has officially been unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo today. Renault says the engine powering the Kwid AMT is an all new engine called 1.0 SCe (Smart Control efficiency) engine. This DOHC engine is mated to a five speed AMT gearbox.

Like the Duster AMT, which was unveiled last year, the AMT tech on board the Kwid too is named Easy-R Gear Box. This tech, Renault claims has been developed using Renault’s expertise in Formula 1.

In order to operate the AMT gearbox, there is a small circular dial on the center console with three settings – R, N and D. All you have to do is press the brake pedal and change the knob to the required drive mode. R is for Reverse, N is for Neutral, and D is for Drive. This knob is called Innovative Shift Control Dial.

Renault Kwid has been a crowd puller ever since it was launched in September 2015. Bookings soared and the company had to step up production to meet increased demand and scale down waiting period. Now with this more powerful AMT variant, expect Renault to experience an even higher demand from buyers in India.

Renault engineers have optimised the AMT gearbox to offer optimum comfort. The AMT gearbox optimises as per the driving style of the driver, and automatically shifts gear depending on the speed of the car, and throttle input. You also get the creep function, which is seen in expensive cars like Mercedes, Audi and BMW. This function allows you to move the car forward as soon as you release the brake lever in the Drive mode, without pressing the accelerator pedal.
