Crash test, passenger safety: New Toyota Fortuner scores 5 stars
The new gen Hilux pickup truck also received 5-star rating in Latin NCAP late last year.The new Toyota Fortuner which is also called as the Hilux SW4 in certain Latin American markets has been subjected to an audit test by Latin NCAP to check if passenger derivative’s safety credentials are consistent with that of the pickup version which received 5-star rating late last year.
The new gen Hilux pickup truck also received 5-star rating in Latin NCAP late last year.The new Toyota Fortuner which is also called as the Hilux SW4 in certain Latin American markets has been subjected to an audit test by Latin NCAP to check if passenger derivative’s safety credentials are consistent with that of the pickup version which received 5-star rating late last year.
After analyzing the test results, the organization concluded that there is a ‘solid consistency’ between the protection offered by the SUV and its pickup sibling. If fact, LATIN NCAP goes on to add that the Fortuner offered better performance in some biomechanical aspects.
Since both the vehicles have comparable performances in the crash test, the pickup’s 5-star rating in adult and child occupant safety has been extended to the SUV as well. The new Hilux pickup which was tested last year was equipped with dual front airbags and driver knee airbag so we can assume that the Foturner test example also had a similar level of equipment. Of course, ABS with EBD and ESP go without saying.
The new Fortuner is expected to be launched in India sometime next year. Based on the second gen IMV platform, the 7-seat ladder frame premium SUV adopts two new downsized diesel engines displacing 2.4- and 2.8-litres. Both manual and automatic transmissions are on offer.
The new Toyota Fortuner will pickup a fight against the likes of new Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer, SsangYong Rexton, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail, etc.
