Apart from introducing the new variant, the Indian automaker has also opened a regional office in the African nation with an objective of enhancing its presence there.

Like the manual variant, the new XUV500 AT will be distributed in Kenya by official importer Xylon Motors which is a part of Simba Corporation.

The AT variant continues to be powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which puts out 140 bhp and 330 Nm of torque. The 6-speed unit is sourced from Transmission specialist AISIN of Japan. The XUV500 AT in Kenya is available in two trims – W8 FWD and W10 AWD.

Mahindra has been aggressively expanding its international product portfolio of late. Not long ago, the automaker introduced the automatic XUV500 in Australia.

The company is also working on a petrol variant of the XUV500 with a primary focus on the export markets. The new engine should be ready sometime in next year. The automaker had earlier gone on record saying that it’s entire portfolio will have a petrol engine option in the next few years.
