The current waiting period of the new Innova stands at 2-4 months.Just when the auto industry started thinking that MPVs are falling out of fashion in India, the Toyota Innova Crysta proved that the notion is not entirely true. Having received over 20,000 bookings, the new family MPV managed to outsell both Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Creta in its very first month of sale.

The Crysta clocked 7,259 units in May 2016 as against Brezza’s 7,193 units and Creta’s 7,057 units.

In other words, a pricey MPV outnumbered in-demand, relatively more affordable compact crossovers. Going by the number of bookings, the Japanese premium people carrier would hold on to its leadership status in the coming months as well.

The fact that the range-topping 2.8L AT variant has received over half of that bookings indicates that there is a strong market for automatic people carriers. The new Innova’s enhanced luxury quotient, additional equipment, and improved styling together seem to have worked a magic.

The Toyota Innova Crysta which is priced between INR 13.83 lakhs to 20.77 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) has no direct competitor but every sedan, crossover and SUV in the INR 12-22 lakh price segment can be perceived as a rival. Thus, with a clever variant spread, Toyota has covered a wide audience base.
