Skoda made a bold statement when it revealed that it was considering the Octavia vRS variant for India. Now, further fuel has been added to this fire as the Czech carmaker is reportedly planning to bring both diesel and petrol versions of the car to the country.

As reported earlier, the petrol motor would be a 2.0-litre turbo TSI unit that is good for a whopping 220PS of power that races it to 100kmph from dead halt in 6.8 seconds. On the other hand, the diesel engine is a 2.0-liltre TDI pot that churns out 184PS of power and has an acceleration of 0-100kmph in 8.1 seconds. Out of the 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG transmission options available with the car internationally, expect the latter to perform duties when the car arrives on Indian shores.

In terms of appearance, Skoda will give the vRS certain aesthetic updates in order to distinguish it from the regular Octavia. The grille makes the car look meaner by ditching the chrome for an all-black guise. The front fascia gets a stylish appeal thanks to the sporty front bumper and the blackened effect on the headlamps. The ‘vRS’ badging, chrome-tipped dual exhaust and sporty wheels add to the aura of the car.

The performance-oriented version of the Octavia will come to India by next year and is expected to be priced at around the Rs 25 lakh mark. While the regular Octavia locks horns with the likes of the Toyota Corolla and the Volkswagen Jetta, there aren’t too many vRS-like fiery saloons in the Indian market at the moment.
