Shift in the customers’ preference back to petrol and high demand for automatic cars have prompted Hyundai to introduce an automatic variant of their much in demand hatchback, Elite i20.

This new launch will help the company generate higher sales during the upcoming festive season. Price of the new Elite i20 AT starts from INR 9.02 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi.

It is powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol which is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain combo was available in the previous generation i20. Power and torque figures stand at 100 PS and 132.3 Nm respectively.

The Elite i20 AT will only be available in Magna trim level. While it will offer dual airbags as standard fitment, other goodies like ABS, EBD, touchscreen AVN, alloy wheels, parking camera, automatic climate control, etc., will be given a miss.

The 1.4-litre petrol engine means, the automatic variant will not enjoy the small car excise duty concessions. Offering the vehicle in fully-loaded Asta trim will take the price to a territory which will not be affordable by many.

The Hyundai Elite i20 AT will be pitted against the likes of Maruti Baleno CVT, VW Polo GT TSI, and Honda Jazz CVT. The more powerful engine is expected to attract younger audience while the automatic transmission would lure urban commuters.

The Hyundai Elite i20 will continue to offer the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine with 5-speed MT and 1.4-litre CRDI diesel engine with 6-MT.
