SC directs telecom operators to provide call data in a week

In a new twist to the cash-for-vote scam, the Supreme Court on Thursday has given a week's time to the telecom operators to provide call data related to the phone tapping.

The court in its orders directed the telecom operators to submit the data in a sealed cover to Vijayawada Metropolitan Magistrate court.

The Court also asked the Vijayawada court to open the sealed cover after three weeks and adjourn the case for one month after it received the cover.

The Court ordered the service providers not to destroy the call data.

The AP government asked the telecom operators for production of call lists while the Telangana government allegedly warned against the same.

Caught between both the Governments, the telecom operators of AP and Telangana including Bharti, Reliance and Idea approached the Supreme Court yesterday seeking its intervention.
