Paytm gets new travel biz head

Mobile payment platform Paytm has roped in Abhishek Rajan to head its recently-launch online travel vertical. Prior to this new appointment, Rajan was head of mobile and digital business at Myntra. An IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus, he will be based out of Bengaluru and will primarily focus on scaling the travel category. This is his second stint at Paytm where he had earlier played a critical role in setting up the digital payments and e-commerce business.
“We look at businesses that will help us to be profitable, and there is a lot of incumbency in the online travel segment in India. Abhishek, with his experience, is the right person to lead our efforts,” said Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder and CEO, Paytm.
Paytm unveiled its travel business in December last year. Pegged to be the fastest $10 billion category for the company, Rajan will be driving its growth. The company is looking to optimise the mobile platform to establish leadership in the category on the back of this new appointment. “The travel segment holds a lot of promise as far as Paytm is concerned. I will be looking at leveraging the company’s existing strengths across digital and mobile platforms to establish it as the most prominent player in the online travel space,” said Rajan.
