Hyderabad: Information technology firm Cyient on Friday launched the work on technology development center in Warangal town of Telangana.

State’s IT Minister KT Rama Rao laid foundation stone for the facility coming up on five acres which will provide 1,000 jobs in the next 18 to 24 months.

With 70,000 square feet space, the development centre is being established in Madikonda Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC).

The facility will focus on advanced GIS, remote sensing, and photogrammetry technologies, catering to a host of solutions for the transportation (navigation), utilities, and communications sectors, the company said.

The centre will have world-class spatial data analytics solutions to address the requirements of specialized geospatial data processing services, using light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and other point cloud technologies, the company said.

Rama Rao lauded the company for taking a lead in taking IT beyond Hyderabad to tier-II cities and termed it as a historic event. He pointed out that Cyient has presence in 32 countries with 13,000 to 14,000 employees including 7,000 in Hyderabad.

He said with just two-hour drive from Hyderabad and presence of National Institute of Technology (NIT) and 16 engineering colleges, Warangal had the potential to become another Pune or Mysuru. Two IT companies would soon set up their operations in Nizamabad and Karimnagar towns, he added.
