Devotees dressed as monks offer prayers
Tirupati: Scores of devotees in monk attire offered special prayers to the presiding deity at the Sri Tatayyaagunta Gangamma Jatara here on Wednesday....
Tirupati: Scores of devotees in monk attire offered special prayers to the presiding deity at the Sri Tatayyaagunta Gangamma Jatara here on Wednesday. The Jatara is a prelude to the other Jataras in the Rayalaseema region. As per the traditions the devotees visits the temple in different attires during the festival and present their offering to the goddess.
The devotees, who present offering to the deity, would visit the temple in the attire prescribed for the specific day. The temple was decorated for the occasion. Temple authorities have made all the necessary arrangements for the devotees on the occasion.
The week-long religious folk festival began on Tuesday with traditional announcement (Chatimpu). Women carry 'Vadi Palu' containing Kumkum Bharine (sacred bowl of kumkum), a blouse piece, turmeric powder and comb and visit the temple by singing and dancing all the way from their houses. Offering of 'Sunnapu Kundalu', 'Sapparalu' and 'Abhishekam' are some of the other rituals of the festival.
