governerTirupati: For the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh, State Governor ESL Narasimhan paid a surprise visit to the near six decade old Sri Venkateswara University and spent over 40 minutes with the institutions Vice Chancellor Prof W. Rajendra in the latter's chambers. This is perhaps the first such surprise visit by the Governor to any of the universities in the State. Incidentally, at the time of the Governor's arrival at the VC's chambers, Prof Rajendra was not in his seat. When he was informed by his office attender, the Vice Chancellor rushed to his chambers. The Governor took the decision all of sudden to visit SVU and to inspect records and directed his driver and security personnel to drive the convoy to SVU premises. As it was summer, there won't be any staff except the security officials in the university after 2 pm. The security personnel alerted the watchman to keep the main door open as the Governor was on the way to the VC's chamber. The Governor straightaway went to VC's chamber and sat there. The attenders and informed the Vice Chancellor, who rushed back to his chambers to meet the Governor. Later, speaking to The Hans India, Prof. Rajendra said that he was thrilled to find the Governor in his office. He said that it was an unforgettable experience in his career. The Governor had enquired about the entire history and progress of the university, including the problems faced by NMR, time-scale, contract and temporary employees and workers, VC said. He said that the Governor had also inquired about the quality of research taking place in the university and suggested some measures to improve the quality and to apply for patents. The Governor was impressed with several individual ranks in various fields that were on par with several universities and suggested to improve the overall rank, which is now at 27th place, to one of the top ten, the Vice Chancellor said. The Governor also enquired about the nature of funding from the State government and University Grants Commission and how these funds were utilized, the VC said. "Governor told me to send a detailed report on various activities including the overall progress of the university as well as report on proposals of patents for selected projects. I have explained to him about the financial, academic and administration related problems of the university," the VC said. The surprise visit of Governor encouraged him to be accountable and responsible as a Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rajendra said. The Registrar Prof. K. Satyavelu Reddy and Rector Prof. MAK Sukumar were also present during the interaction.
Guv releases book at Vedic Varsity
Tirupati: State Governor ESL Narasimhan has released a book titled 'Tarka Samgraha Deepika Sarvaswam' at Vedic University here on Thursday. He interacted with the Registrar A Vijaya Kumar and staff. The Governor was given a warm welcome at the Renigunta Airport from the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Vice Chancellor Prof. W Rajendra and Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam Vice Chancellor Prof. S Ratna Kumari. He paid a surprise visit to SVU and interacted with VC, Registrar and Rector while going to Vedic University. After the book release, he advised the Registrar to take special attention on research activities along with the regular academic syllabus. He reviewed the progress and ongoing activities of the university. Later, he visited Sri Padmavathi Temple in Tiruchanur along with the West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan. The temple priests have offered them 'Prasadams'.
