includeTirupati: Sri Venkateshwara University Vice Chancellor Prof. W Rajendra said that books provide the knowledge essential for life and everyone should inculcate the habit of reading books. He spoke at the three-day book exhibition organised by the National Book Trust. The final day of the exhibition was held at the Arts Block Auditorium of SV University here on Tuesday. Prof. W Rajendra released the book titled 'Srinivas Ramanujan' by Changanti Krishna Kumari and another book titled 'Hrudaya Bandham' translated to Telugu by T Ramakrishna. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. W Rajendra advised people to inculcate the habit of reading books in everyday life. In the past, reading `Pedda Balasiksha', Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita had boosted the human values in the society, he said. "We don't get to hear 'Vemana Shatakam' and 'Sumati Shatakam' frequently. The culture of reading books is slowly diminishing in the digital era," the VC lamented. SV University Rector Prof. MAK Sukumar said that human values were falling day-by-day. Sexual crimes are being inflicted on small children, he said. Such heinous crimes could be controlled by increasing ones knowledge by reading books. SV University College of Arts principal Prof. Kirankranth Chowdary, Kadapa Akashvani director and others were present on the occasion.
