Producer Ramesh Prasad, who is returning to film production after a brief hiatus of three years, says he loved the concept of Marathi film ‘Timepass’ so much that he decided to remake it as ‘Andhra Pori’ in Telugu. “As a producer I just selected the story, that’s it. Everything else was monitored by my director Raj Madiraju,” said Prasad. He was speaking at a press brief about the film which sees Aakash Puri and Ulka Gupta in the lead roles.

Madiraju said it’s a teenage love story set in the early ‘90s. “We tweaked the original to suit Telugu sensibilities. Like other actors, we even auditioned Aakash Puri for the lead role.”Aakash Puri said that he was not keen on doing the film to begin with. “I wasn’t keen on being introduced as a hero right now but when my father Puri Jagannadh insisted that I won’t be a good actor if I don’t do the film, I decided to be a part of it.

Later I watched the original version and was completely taken aback by the performance of Prathamesh Parab.”Aakash added that he had doubts whether he would be able to pull off the Telangana dialect. He plays a Telangana guy, who woos an Andhra girl in the film. “The workshops helped me a lot,” he chuckled.Prasad is planning to release the film on May 15.
