Netflix and Marvel promises more DareDevilry

When Marvel announced they’d be bringing Daredevil to Netflix ubiquitous sighs could be heard, largely due to flashbacks of Ben Affleck‘s poor portrayal of “The Man Without Fear”. However, the Netflix adaptation, starring Charlie Cox in the titular role, proved to not only be better than the 2003 film but pretty damn great in its own right.

So great, that critics and fans alike, who’ve largely completed the 13-episode inaugural season of the Netflix-exclusive show, are already asking for more — and that’s what they will get.

Earlier this week Marvel announced that Daredevil will be renewed for a second season, set to air sometime next year. Showrunner and producer, Steven DeKnight, however will not be returning to the show as he has prior commitments coinciding with the production schedule of the next season.

Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) will step in as co-showrunners to replace DeKnight, and to assist current producer Drew Goddard this time around. Not much should change as both Petrie and Ramirez wrote for the first season of Daredevil alongside DeKnight.

He said, “While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.” Sounds promising enough.

Daredevil is one of four Marvel comic book heroes who will receive a Netflix original series, with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones all slated to receive shows, the culmination of which will be a miniseries based on The Defenders superhero team.

Cox has also expressed interest in taking Daredevil to the big screen in a cameo in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film, but that’s less than likely. “Well he’s in the comics, but I think they’re already… I think I might have missed that boat.

So unless someone watches the show and falls so madly in love with it that they decide to get me in for a day, that would be great, but I have no idea,” Cox said in a recent interview. With principal photography for Civil War to commence in coming weeks the cameo will probably not come to fruition.
