In what will be a clash of the titans, two of most highly anticipated ventures – ‘Baahubali - The Beginning’ and ‘Srimanthudu’ -- will be releasing in theatres within a week of each other. Yes, it is now confirmed that the Prabhas-starrer, which is coming from the stables of S S Rajamouli will have a seven-day head-start over superstar Mahesh Babu-starrer ‘Srimanthudu’.

Joining the battle, in which the sweepstakes are eminently of a high order, Mahesh took to Twitter while not only confirming that his picture will hit the screens on July 17, as against the July 10 release of ‘Baahubali - The Beginning’, but also asserting that he is not afraid of Rajamouli’s magnum opus overshadowing his picture’s release.

Trade circles are wondering if it a wise move from the Mahesh bandwagon considering that the first part of ‘Baahubali’ has caught the attention of the nation. “Yes”, says a source close to the actor.“Mahesh feels that there is a scope for both the films to hit the bull’s eye at the box office as they symbolise two different genres. Added to that, he is aware that his fans are waiting for a hit from him after the poor showing of his immediate earlier films.”

Mahesh Babu in 'Srimanthudu'

Though our sources say that Mahesh might not get the number of screens that he would like to since ‘Baahubali – The Beginning’ will release on a epic note and that in the second week too some screens are set to retain it, Mahesh, it seems, is least bothered about it. “He has always sworn by content and it will no different this time around. He has turned a producer with the film and is not in a mood to budge on the release date for now,” adds the source.

What about the publicity? Will ‘Srimanthudu’ be promoted on a note to that of Prabhas-starrer? “Mahesh will be pulling out all stops to ensure that it reaches everyone but you know how he is -- less is more for him,” the source adds. Either way the fans are doubly happy. They hope to have two blockbusters on back-back Fridays.
