About 250 families residing in the Budiga Jangam Colony of Devunipalli village, adjacent to Kodugupaka in the mandal, have one or more members down with fever and other ailments linked to mosquito menace and insanitary conditions. While one person died during treatment recently, 20 others are undergoing treatment in the Karimnagar Government Hospital.
Having lost faith in the tattered public healthcare system, the people of Devunipalli, many of whom are down with high fevers and other diseases linked to insanitary and unhygienic conditions, recently pledged to build a temple for the local presiding deity as a votive offering. The recent death of a villager with high fever following hospitalization triggered the bizarre move. They are now mortally afraid of seeking any
kind of medical treatment.
Sultanabad: About 250 families residing in the Budiga Jangam Colony of Devunipalli village, adjacent to Kodugupaka in the mandal, have one or more members down with fever and other ailments linked to mosquito menace and insanitary conditions. While one person died during treatment recently, 20 others are undergoing treatment in the Karimnagar Government Hospital.
The sick residents have been gripped by fear that they would die if they are hospitalised. The despicable conditions in Devunipalli (ironically, meaning where God resides) have continued for months as even elementary sanitary measures such as cleaning of drains and spraying have not been taken up by the apathetic civic staff. Repeated pleas of the residents to the sarpanch seem to have been met with a stony silence. While speaking to The Hans India, residents accused him of being indifferent to the people.
They bemoaned that officials’ continued neglect of civic duties amounts to playing with their lives. Left with no other option, they have decided to leave everything to God. They have pledged to build a temple for the local deity if the ailing residents are cured, regardless of the medical services claimed by the administration.
