Kochi: In an astonishing incident, a homemaker in Kochi allegedly committed suicide after the police failed to investigate a Facebook exploitation case even after one month of her last complaint with the police. It is also learnt that the police have also ignored a directive by the Kerala High Court on the case status and have failed to file a statement.

Following the spread of obscene Facebook posts against her by her neighbour, a 25 year old woman Vijitha, a resident of Chittoor allegedly committed suicide at her paternal house near Kochi.

Vijitha was survived by her husband Vinuketen and child. According to the sources, on December 23, Vijitha had complained to the Cheranelloor police against Ratheesh, son of Mohanan of Ambalappuzha. In her complaint she stated that the accused posted obscene comments alleging she was having links with several men. In the past also she made complaints on him and it was the last of her complaints.

She made several attempts with the police but all in vain, as the police declined to probe the case under sections 66A of the IT act and she even approached Kochi City Police Commissioner K. G. James.

Later, she filed a plea before the honourable High Court on January 15 mentioning the inaction of the police. In response, the High Court had asked the Cheranelloor police to file a statement but the police team has not filed it, even on date.

The public prosecutor urged for time to make a statement resulting the adjournment of the case. Interestingly, the case will come up before the court on Tuesday. But, by now the complainer has ended her life.

Police Commissioner K.G. James maintained that he had accepted her plea and forwarded it to the Cheranelloor station. There are civil and criminal cases pending between the two for the past four years but she was not involved in the same. She alleged that Ratheesh posted some obscene messages on FB and also shared the same with Sarath, a close friend of the victim's mother, added the commissioner of police.
