A middle-aged woman Ramanamma, the convenor of Rajivnagar panchayat (Jeevakona), attempted self-immolation near Telugu Talli statue.
Responding to Seemandhra bandh call, the woman, along with other YSRCP activists gathered near the centre to stage rasta-roko in order to prevent vehicular traffic near the ROB that is at the entrance of the town.
Suddenly, Ramanna took the can of petrol which she brought with her, doused herself. Even before she could resort to the extreme step, alert women activists prevented her from the self-immolation bid. The incident created flutter in the crowded area taking the pilgrims by surprise.
