Vizianagaram: The Vizianagaram rural police seized 29 kg of silver ornaments being transported illegally on Monday. The silver leg chains, being transported from Srikakulam to Vijayawada, were seized during a check at the Y Junction here. The police arrested the person travelling in the car.
According to the police, they found only the letterhead of Ambika Jewellers of Vijayawada and no other document pertaining to the silver. The arrested, however, claimed that the ornaments were being taken to jewellery shops in Vijayawada only as ‘samples’.
As the silver was in the form of leg chains, officials suspect that the ornaments might have been meant for distribution to women voters. The Vizianagaram rural police registered a case and took up investigation.
