Badaun: The families of the Badaun cousins- who were found hanging from a mango tree in rural Uttar Pradesh- have said that they will hang themselves from the same tree if "justice is not done in the case."

The statement comes days after sources from the Central Bureau of Investigation said that there was no evidence of the two girls having been raped before they were killed.

Forensic tests ruled out sexual assault in the rape and murder case, in which two teenage girls were allegedly raped and then hanged from a mango tree in a village of Uttar Pradesh this May.

The victim's families has however said that the accused had admitted to the crime in front of the villagers and have questioned the latest twist in the case, which had provoked national outrage.

"The night of the crime, Pappu Yadav in front of several villagers and five policemen from the local police station confessed to the crime. He said that yes we took the girls and directed them to where they would be found," father of one of the victim's said. "If justice is not served my entire family and I will hang ourselves on the same tree," he added.

CBI officials have said they are not ruling out the involvement of the family and they are not ruling out an honour killing angle. But the family is questioning the CBI's findings.

"When he (Pappu Yadav) was brought on remand he had taken the cops to the spot of crime and described everything. Then how is the CBI claiming otherwise?" The CBI has said the victim's family paid one lakh rupees to the main witness in the case. Both the victim's family and witness acknowledge this but say the money is meant as a loan to the witness for his father's treatment.

The witness insists that he saw the accused forcibly taking the girls away the night before their bodies were found hanging. "That night I was out in the when I heard a girl calling for help, I threw the torch in that direction to see four people people trying to take the girls away, I could only recognise Pappu Yadav and ran after him," the witness told NDTV.
