Hyderabad: Continuing its crackdown on anti-social elements, the Cyberabad Police launched a ‘cordon and search’ operation in different areas under Balanagar zone and arrested at least 12 probable offenders in the wee hours of Sunday.

Addressing the media on Saturday at his office, Cyberabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand said some areas were identified basing on the number of ex-convicts, dossier criminals, rowdy sheeters and suspects and also inputs from the crime staff. Crime records revealed a few pockets in Rajeev Gruhakalpa, Jagathgirigutta, Quthbullapur and Jeedimetla had become haven for criminals. “The mission of this operation is to identify history snatchers like suspects, known depredators, dossier criminals, house burglars, and foreigners etc.,” Anand added.

During their ‘cordon and search’ operation, a team headed by DCP (Balanagar) AR Srinivas and Additional DCP (Crimes) B Srinivas Reddy, and comprising two ACPs, 13 inspectors, 33 SIs, 300 constables, SOT staff and CCS staff, confiscated 30 motorcycles, 10 auto-rickshaws and 12 suspects were taken into custody for questioning to verify their antecedents.

“It is learnt that lot of criminals from other States take shelter on the outskirts. Their relatives especially youngsters take shelter in these areas, commit offence and leave the city with the stolen booty.

Due to this operation in this area, confidence will be instilled among public,” said Anand adding that Cyberabad police would continue these types of operations in its limits to meet world-class policing standards and to induce a sense of security among citizens.
