Hyderabad: Family members of a missing man held a dharna in front of the Afzalgunj police station on Wednesday claiming a dead body that was buried two days back by another claimant. The baffled police sought permission from Mandal Revenue Officer for DNA test after exhumation on Thursday.

On December 5, an unidentified body of about 60-year-old man was found and deposited with Osmania Hospital Mortuary. A resident of Kishanbagh, Syed Arshad who was looking for his father claimed that the body was of his father by producing relevant documents.

The Afzalgunj police handed over the body after post-mortem to him on December 7, and the body was buried at Kishanbagh’s burial ground. However, on Wednesday, Md Shareef, who visited the mortuary, claimed that the attributes of body which was buried matched with that of his brother, Md Rafiq, a retired RTC driver. A missing case of Rafiq was registered with Amberpet police station on December 3.

The claimant referred to the photograph of dead man clicked earlier by the Satya Harishchandra Foundation. The Afzalgunj police, which failed convince the family members of Rafiq, as a last resort decided to exhume the body for DNA test. The Inspector Afzalgunj C Anjaiah sought permission for exhumation from MRO which would carried out on Thursday.
