Hyderabad: The police on Monday claimed to have recovered 40.2 tolas of gold ornaments and Rs 2.5 lakh cash from the two arrested men, who had stolen a total of 105 tolas of gold from a relative’s house at Kaladera in August 2014, under Chaderghat police station limits.

According to police, the accused Syed Omer, 23 and Syed Tariq Moinuddin, 21 residents of Santoshnagar confessed to have pledged the gold ornaments weighing about 40.2 tolas at Canara Bank in Kanchanbagh branch. They recovered gold and Rs 2.5 lakh cash kept at Omer’s residence, which was obtained from bank after pledging. The accused had stolen the ornaments after breaking open the house door lock of Mohd Abdul Raheem Khan, uncle of Omer at Kaladera.

They were arrested on January 16. “On August 30 last year, Abdul Raheem Khan and his family left their house to receive their daughter-in-law Fatima Jabeen from Shamshabad Airport. Taking this as advantage, the duo committed the crime. While Tariq kept close tabs on their movements, Omer, who had duplicate keys, opened the doors and broke open the lock, where the almirah was located,” said Ravula Giridhar, ACP, Sultan Bazar.
