Hyderabad: A woman was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly posing as Joint Collector and cheating people by promising them houses under 'Rajiv Gruhakalpa' scheme here in SR Nagar.

Shailu alias Alekhya Reddy collected amounts to the tune of several lakh from around 50 persons, residing in different localities of the city, by promising that she would ensure houses for them under the ‘Rajiv Gruhakalpa’ scheme, a housing programme launched for low income groups in urban areas, they said. When she failed to do so and started taking the phone calls, a complaint in this connection was lodged on February 10 and based on that SR Nagar police arrested her on Wednesday, inspector GV Ramana Goud said. “Many innocent people were duped by Shailu and police is expecting more victims to come forward and lodge complaints,” Goud said, adding that in the past similar cases were registered against the impersonator in LB Nagar and Sanathnagar police stations.

Police has charged her with criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, forgery and criminal intimidation.
