Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi International Aiport (RGIA) Crime team on Friday arrested two employees of a cargo service company and recovered 4.8 kg of gold ornaments worth Rs 1.20 crore, which they allegedly stole from Shamshabad Airport on February 7.

Vadthya Manoj Kumar alias Manoj and Aluri Satyanarayana Raju alias Chinna Reddy, both employees of Royal Express Cargo Private Limited located at Begumpet, were arrested on charges of stealing a parcel, containing gold and jewels from a consignment of 132 parcels that arrived from Kolkata to Shamshabad on February 7.

Gold ornaments recovered from the arrested persons.

“They used to look after the cargo bookings and receive the parcels from other cities. With their experience, they were aware that gold is also being sent through cargo from various cities. On February 7, a consignment of 132 parcels came by IndiGo Airlines (6E 0348) from Kolkata. Manoj concealed a parcel of gold ornaments and mentioned in the cargo maintenance register that he received only 131 parcels.

Later, he and his associate Satyanarayana took the parcel to the residence of one of them and shared the booty equally between them,” DCP (Shamshabad) AR Srinivas said. Based on a complaint, RGIA police led by detective inspector K Sudharshan Reddy had booked a case and during the course of investigation, nabbed the duo and recovered the entire stolen ornaments from them.
